ISTE STANDARDS

These charts represent my marked professional development growth

related to the International Society for Technology in Education Standards from August 2017 to December 2017.

BEFORE

AFTER

These are the ways in which the lessons and resources I have developed adhere to each of the ISTE Standards:

ISTE-T #1: Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity

My Inquiry-Based Learning Lesson adheres to this standard because it effectively encourages and promotes student creativity and collaboration through the debate on Jay Gatsby's supposed greatness. It also challenges students to consider real-world, big-picture ideas like "What makes a man great?" Subsequent to the debate, students will be asked to create a reflection (either as a selfie video or written piece through Google Docs) to synthesize the experience.

My Computational Thinking Lesson adheres to this standard because it challenges students to collaborate to develop a creative comic representation of a passage from the epic poem Beowulf using Scratch. To do this, students will need to consider all aspects of the poem, from the setting to the order of action. Then, after creating and presenting their digital comics to the class, students will create a reflection (either as a selfie video or written piece through Google Docs) to synthesize the experience.

ISTE-T #2: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments

My Digital Citizenship board game adheres to this standard because it adapts a traditional method of learning to include digital tools like iPads and QR codes. This allows all students to participate in the game--even when it is not their turn--and promotes collaborative learning. It also makes the board game more engaging for students.

The Nearpod presentations I developed adhere to this standard because they have integrated additional digital tools into normal presentations. This allows students to collaborate and reflect creatively on the material in the middle of the lesson. It also promotes differentiation because students can follow along with the lesson at their own pace, making the learning more individualized for each student.

ISTE-T #3: Model digital age work and learning

EVIDENCE #1: SMORE FLYER

EVIDENCE #2: SYMBALOO WEBMIX

The Symbaloo webmix that I created adheres to this standard because it uses digital tools to share useful and relevant resources with students and parents. These resources will help students be successful both in the classroom and out. They also promote student innovation and creativity in my class.

My Smore flyers adhere to this standard because they use digital tools to communication information to students, parents, and the community. Through the flyers and infographics I am able to convey to them important class information. I can also use Smore to share relevant resources that will promote students' success.

ISTE-T #4: Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility

My study of copyright and plagiarism laws adheres to this standard because I will this knowledge to teach my students how to safely, legally, and ethically use digital information. I will discuss with them what it means to be respectful of intellectual property. I will also teach my students how to document sources appropriately so that they may avoid plagiarizing others.

My Digital Citizenship Lesson Plan adheres to this standard because it teaches students how to be information literate. Students practice finding information from a variety of sources and identifying whether or not the information is trustworthy and accurate. They also learn how to choose their news sources so that they may avoid unintentionally spreading "fake" news.

ISTE-T #5: Engage in professional growth and leadership

My ISTE Standards professional growth evaluation adheres to this standard because it demonstrates how my technology knowledge and skills have continued to grow and develop. By investing in my own professional development, I am contributing to the technological advance of the education field. I can also model to my students the importance of life-long learning.

EVIDENCE #2: PINTEREST

My use of Pinterest adheres to this standard because it allows me to collaborate with and participate in global learning communities. In this way I am able to share resources with other teachers and add to the constant improvement of the education field. Similarly, I have the ability to learn from other educators by sharing their resources and lessons.
